My first post of 2017, I hope everyone had a well rested break over the festive period and you all ate your body weight in cheese, chocolate and too many roasted dinners. I’m here to share with you my 2016 best of discoveries.
So many trends/hyped products happened as it does every year but I have definitely tried out some new brands and really got into skincare.
This has been mentioned a few times on my blog now but this orange bottle has just been with me since Spring. I said I wanted to get a skincare routine so I sorted that out and I’ve been toning with this morning and night, over time you really start to notice how well your skin appearance is as the redness starts to fade and even some scaring from blemishes. I will repurchase this in 2017 for sure.
The whole contouring and strobing trends have been a thing of 2016 but something I’ve been obsessing over is highlighters, there are so many choices to choose now and you can’t help but want to try them all. The two highlighters that have really stood out to me in my collection are MUA Undress Your Skin which is a really affordable drugstore highlighter with an amazing pigmentation which you could compare to a high end quality in finish and the other being ColourPop in Lunch Money which is more of a pearly glow which can be used as a subtle shimmer or a high coverage glow when applied with the finger, I recently discovered that this is a dupe for the Mary Lou highlighter which is my newest addition to the collection. My next purchase is the Sleek Palettes are these a good buy?
Only until looking back on 2016 have I realised how obsessed I’ve become with liquid lipsticks and I know I’m not alone with this, there’s just something about how easy they are to apply and the staying power is just not the same compared to a bullet stick, not saying I still don’t love lipsticks because I do but all you seem to see now are new lines of liquids being realised all the time. A few favourites of mine are NYX the brand of all liquid lipsticks and with these stands popping up in just about every Boots stand around the UK there just unavoidable. I’d recommend trying NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams & NYX Lingerie Lipsticks. ColourPop are another brand that are just constantly realising new shades of these, they are high coverage matte lipsticks which some people do say can be quite drying but you should expect this from a matte lip. I love ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in First Class which is a bright orangey red, perfect for summer and I wore this a lot on my holidays.
I never used to touch my brows when I was a teen and I think I’m thankful for this now as so many people compliment me on how thick and full they look naturally so at first I used to just apply brow gel then Benefit released this whole brow range and I was lucky enough allowed to go and try out some of these products which you can read here. I purchased the Benefit Ka Brow which is a cream-gel pomade which comes with a brush, I wear this pretty much most days since June, with the little brush included which is probably worst for wear now I can easily shape and fill my brows, this lasts all day so perfect for work and it’s waterproof. I have no problems when it comes to removing this at the end of the day as well. Pomades are a new favourite and I’d like to give the ABH one a go but not sure on my shade.
For another year running the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner Pen is still my number one, I’ve tried a few drugstore ones which just don’t live up to the intense black or lasting power and not to mention how long this lasts until it dries out, I swear I only have to purchase about two a year. If you haven’t given this a try then I would highly recommend giving it ago, most people raved about the Kat Von D liner but I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews and after my whole experience with the Too Faced Sketch Maker liner I didn’t want to waste my money again.
That’s a round up of ‘my best of 2016 products’. Let me know what’s been your favourites in the comments as I love to give new products a try.
